Methods to turn Off and On Jump Lists in Windows 10

Method 1 - Using Settings Application to turn off the Jump Lists


Step 1 - open Settings by clicking on the Start Menu.

Step 2 - Out of a few options in the Settings app, you will find an option Personalization. Click on Personalization to view the items associated with it.

Step 3 - On the left pane, under the title Personalization, you will find an option Start. Click on it and then you need to go to the right pane. Here search for the option Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar. Now you have to toggle the button below the option and turn off the option.

This is the method to turn off the Jump Lists completely which includes all the options. But if you want to turn off for any single application then follow these steps.

Step 1 - You need to follow the same steps till step number 3. But here do not toggle the button in Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar. Instead, click on the Choose which folder appears on start.

Step 2 - Here you will find the list of all the applications which shows Jump Lists on the Start. Now choose the option you desire and toggle the button to turn off the Jump Lists.

Turning On the Jump Lists Using Settings App


In order to turn on for all the applications straight way toggle the button to On option underneath Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar.

But if you have selected an individual application then go to Choose which folder appears on start. Click it open and then select the application for which the Jump Lists are off. Here toggle the button to On which will help to bring it again.


Method 2 - Using Registry Tweak to turn off the Jump Lists


Step - 1 You first need to launch the Registry Editor.

For this first, click on the Start button from the left end of the taskbar, type regedit and then press Enter. After pressing Enter if the User Account Control seeks permission then click on the Yes button to permit.

Step 2 - After opening the Registry Editor type or copy paste the given registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Step 3 - Now on the right pane, you need to create a 32-bit DWORD value and then name it Start_TrackDocs.  Remember to allocate the data value as 0 and consequently, this will help you to disable the Jump List feature itself.

Now if you want to bring back the Jump Lists all you have to do is follow the whole process till step 3. Then you need to bring back the allocated data value to 1to help you bring back the Jump Lists.
